This event was expected to be one of the stronger editions of this unique seven-furlong competition for fillies and mares. However, vet checks resulted in several scratches this morning, such as top contenders Sweet Azteca and Tamara.

As a result, the field looks much smaller, though conditioner Bob Baffert stands a strong chance to secure his 20th Breeders’ Cup win. His runners include Richi along with Splendora, while Hope Road, victor in the Grade One Ballerina Stakes, is viewed as the primary threat.
