An individual earned a substantial sum on the ouster of Venezuela's president immediately preceding it was officially announced, raising questions about the possibility of profiting from inside knowledge of the event.

Market Movement in Predictions

Wagers on Polymarket, an online prediction market, that the leader would be out of power by the close of the month surged in the time leading up to Donald Trump stated on January 3rd that the Venezuelan leader had been apprehended.

A particular user, which became a member recently and took four positions, all on Venezuela, made more than $436K from a initial bet of $32,537.

The identity is unknown. The user had only a string of letters and numbers for identification.

Probability Spikes Before Public Statement

Market statistics shows that users estimated the likelihood of the president's removal at just under 7% in the midday period of the Friday before the event.
